The MPS Iris
A Historic Vessel with a Modern Twist
The MPS Iris, built in 1928, began its journey as a sturdy cargo ship, transporting goods across the waterways of Europe. For decades, it braved the canals and rivers, carrying the essence of Dutch maritime heritage in its hull.
As times changed, so did the Iris. The ship was transformed into a passenger vessel and eventually in 2005 into the cozy Hotelboat Iris you see today, blending its historic charm with modern comfort.
In summer as you might know, it is host to bike tours from BikePlanet Tours and others. But in winter, the Iris is moored in Amsterdam Oosterdok as, welcoming guests as a unique floating hotel.
Next to this story, you’ll find a photograph that brings the past to life: the original owner of the Iris as a cargo ship, standing proudly next to Wouter. This connection between past and present is at the heart of the Iris experience—a vessel that continues to share its stories on Amsterdam’s waters and beyond.
